As Maneater approaches, we once again think about shark movies. As we always say here at Last Movie Outpost, they are surprisingly difficult to get right. As a subject matter, it should be a slam dunk. And yet, there has only be one, single, solitary shark movie that was truly great – Jaws.

There have been a handful that have been good, such as The Shallows, Jaws 2 and The Reef. There have been some that are silly yet entertaining, like Deep Blue Sea and The Meg. Then there is just a flaming dumpster pile of complete dogshit such as Shark Attack, Shark Beach, Jaws The Revenge and Sharknado.

Why are they so hard to get right? Will Saban Films buck the trend with Maneater?

You can be the judge as to how things are shaping up as they have released a trailer for the horror thriller.

The story follows a woman (Nicky Whelan), recently dumped by her fiancee, who uses her planned honeymoon to go with a group of friends. Only when she is there, she discovers there is something in the water.

Maneater

Maneater is written and directed by Justin Lee. The official blurb says:

“What better place to drown your sorrows than an idyllic island paradise? That was the idea when Jesse’s friends convinced her to not let a broken engagement stand in the way of enjoying her prepaid honeymoon. Their sorrows weren’t the only thing going to drown on their trip especially with a man-eating shark swimming just below the surface.”
