William H. Macy has signed up to fight some damn dirty apes. Or maybe, in this age of mo-cap, he will be one? Either way he is set to join Owen Teague, Freya Allan, and Peter Macon in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes at 20th Century Studios.

Wes Ball takes over from Matt Reeves who is still off playing with his bats. It has been referred to as “all-new” yet set within the same timeline and universe as the previous trilogy that served as prequels. These kicked off in 2011 with Rupert Wyatt’s Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, then Reeves stepped in for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 2014 and War for the Planet of the Apes in 2017.

Remember, a TV in the background of Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes showed Charlton Heston and pals blasting off. We know how this ends! We have seen how an experimental Alzheimer treatment kickstarted ape intelligence while ravaging humanity with simian flu. Then we saw how man’s further downfall was largely our own fault, culminating in a civil war between militia and army units over a mutated simian flu that caused humans to become mute. It’s almost as if we were the animals all along?

According to Planet Of The Apes lore, we still have to find a way to blow it all up like maniacs.

Specifics of Macy’s role are currently under wraps. The script is from Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Patrick Aison. Joe Hartwick Jr, Jaffa, Silver and Jason Reed are producers.

The Planet of the Apes franchise has made more than $1.7 billion at the box office.
