Director Justin Lin has abruptly announced that he is out of Fast X. He has decided to walk and has posted about his decision on Instagram. Universal is on board with his decision to quit the “fambly”.
Lin shared the news on Instagram, posting a statement:
The decision is said to be amicable but due to the Hollywood staple – creative differences. This is not the first issue to impact the franchise. Along with losing a lead to a tragic accident, a simmering feud between Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson continues and occasionally bubbles over in a massive muscle Mary display of barely contained homo-erotic tension.
Production on the new installment has already started, so it is not hard to imagine what may have happened. We imagine a towering ego could well be behind the move. Main unit has briefly paused as Universal looks for a replacement director. The second unit continues filming, probably because they are in space or something.
Lin has directed five of the nine movies, including the movie that probably saved the franchise and set it on the course it is on today – Fast Five.
Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris ‘Ludacris; Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, and Charlize Theron are returning for two-part franchise conclusion.
Michael Rooker, Jason Momoa, Daniela Melchior, and Brie Larson join the ensemble cast.
Fast X is set to open on May 19th 2023 as long as they can find a new director.
