No, we are not talking about the re-team of The Rock, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds in another art-crime caper. This is a different Red Notice and it sounds much, much more interesting.

Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, The Bourne Identity) has signed on to adapt and direct a series based on Bill Browder’s novel Red Notice.

This is a real-life tale. At times it is like a financial Oceans 11 meets political thriller. The author’s fight against the Russian Government is at the center of the story. Browder is an American hedge fund manager who made a small fortune in Moscow after the fall of the Soviet Union. In the process, his unconventional team discovered the kleptocratic oligarchs, endemic corruption, and the iron first of the Putin regime. The content is timely, considering what is currently happening in the financial world due to sanctions against Putin and his cronies.

Bill Browder crosses Red Square in 2004.

The profoundly shocking story of the murder of lawyer Sergei Magnitsky in Russian police custody serves as a starting point as the lengths Putin will go to silence critics and exert total state control become clear.

Red Notice lays out the whitewash of the imprisonment and the murder, then joins the dots from the world of finance in New York and London in the 1990s, through battles with ruthless oligarchs in turbulent post-Soviet Union Moscow, to the very heart of the Kremlin.

Liman will direct the eight-part series, which has been adapted by Nicholas Martin (Florence Foster Jenkins). Michael Kuhn is attached to produce. The series is going to be the subject of a bidding war between streamers. The plan is for a Spring 2023 launch.
