Pixar has released the first teaser trailer for Lightyear, which has Chris Evans now voicing the Space Ranger from Toy Story.

The film will tell “the story of Buzz Lightyear and his adventures to infinity and beyond” – but no other details are known about it yet besides that.

As Disney Pixar explains:

“The sci-fi action-adventure presents the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear—the hero who inspired the toy—introducing the legendary Space Ranger who would win generations of fans.”

Here’s the teaser:

Speaking about the film to Entertainment Weekly, the film’s director Angus MacLane said:

“In the Toy Story universe, [Lightyear] would be like a movie that maybe Andy would have seen, that would have made him want a Buzz Lightyear figure,”

“The movie doesn’t end and then you see Andy eating popcorn,”

“This is its own thing… This is standalone. It’s the Buzz Lightyear movie. It’s that character but as the space ranger, not as the toy.”

MacLane’s previous work includes co-director on Finding Dory, and director of the shorts Toy Story of Terror and Burn-E, as well as work for years as an animator at the studio.

The final screenplay credits have not been confirmed yet. Based on characters created by Pete Docter for the original Toy Story. Produced by Galyn Susman.

Disney will release Pixar’s Lightyear in theaters starting June 17th.
