Kurt Russell has had one hell of a career when you think about it. Gabriel Cash, Jack Burton, Wyatt Earp, RJ MacReady and, of course, Snake Plissken. A long line of instantly recognizable characters from both smash hits and cult classics.
Recently he’s popped up in mega-franchises like Fast & Furious and Guardians Of The Galaxy. Could his final role be the big red guy himself, Santa Claus?
Chris Columbus is directing him in two The Christmas Chronicles movies. Part II is hitting Netflix right now in time for the Holiday Season. Speaking with Yahoo Movies, the director says the actor told him he wants that role to be the last one he ever plays:
“[Kurt] said to me, ‘I want to walk into the sunset, this being the last role I play. He wants to continue doing it. Deep down into his soul, he’s committed to this role. That means eight weeks growing the beard with little additional flourishes, working with the script every night before he shoots with me. It’s an intense commitment. And he takes it very seriously.”
The sequel will once again see Russell’s wife Goldie Hawn cameo as Mrs Claus as they work to stop the bad elf cancelling Christmas. So not a political thriller, then?
I had always hoped he would bring Snake Plissken out of retirement for one last go around.
