Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Godzilla, Kick-Ass) has been cast in the lead role in a solo movie about the Spider-Man villain. The Wrap first broke the story. Taylor-Johnson has a multiple movie deal and this will link into Venom and Morbius.
Kraven is Russian-born Sergei Kravinoff. He is the son of an aristocrat who fled to the United States with his family in 1917 after the Russian nobility was decimated by the February Revolution and the subsequent collapse of the reign of Tsar Nicholas II.
Unlike other hunters, he typically disdains the use of guns or bow and arrows, preferring to take down large dangerous animals with his bare hands. He also lives by a code of honor of sorts, choosing to hunt his game fairly. He consumes a mystical serum to give himself enhanced strength and dramatically slow the aging process.
Kraven was trained as a hunter largely by a mysterious man named Gregor, a mercenary who once battled Ka-Zar. Kraven was, at one point, the lover of the voodoo priestess Calypso.
He is constantly out to prove himself as the best hunter in the world. Though he is often overconfident in his own abilities, which he boasts about, he possesses a great sense of honor and treats his adversaries as equals until proven otherwise.
Because of this, Kraven has also been depicted as an antihero and an ally of Squirrel Girl and sometimes Spider-Man himself, whom he came to respect deeply for the numerous times he out-skilled Kraven.
The storyline of Kraven’s Last Hunt is considered by comics fans to be one of the greatest stories in comics history.
Oscar nominee J.C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year, Triple Frontier) will direct from a screenplay by Richard Wenk (The Equalizer, The Magnificent Seven).
A January 13th, 2023 release date has penciled in.
