Kraven The Hunter is shaping up to have potential. Director J.C. Chandor is the man behind All Is Lost and Margin Call. Russell Crowe has signed on with Fred Hechinger as Chameleon and Ariana DeBose as Calypso. They join Aaron Taylor Johnson who plays Kraven.
Now the movie has found its villain and, according to Deadline, it is another interesting casting. Alessandro Nivola (The Many Saints of Newark, Jurassic Park III) will be the main bad guy. It’s currently not known what character Nivola will be playing, other than it being the antagonist.
In the comics, Kraven has gone up against everyone from Daredevil, Deadpool, and Spider-Man to Eddie Brock and Everett Ross. Kraven is typically portrayed as a renowned big-game hunter whose goal in life is to best Spider-Man in order to prove himself as the world’s greatest hunter. Though he is often overconfident in his own abilities, which he boasts about, he possesses a great sense of honor, and treats his adversaries as equals until proven otherwise. Because of this, Kraven has also been depicted as an antihero and an ally of Squirrel Girl and sometimes Spider-Man himself, whom he came to respect deeply for the numerous times he defeated Kraven.
The character is widely regarded as one of Spider-Man’s most formidable enemies among his rogues, and gained considerable attention from storylines such as 1987’s Kraven’s Last Hunt, 2010’s Grim Hunt, and 2019’s Hunted. Something tells me there is a theme developing here.
Chandor will direct Kraven The Hunter from a script by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing. The film opens on January 13th 2023.
