We reported back in December that The Toxic Avenger was getting a remake. It has now been confirmed that Kevin Bacon has been cast as the villain.
There is no news on who Bacon will be playing, the criminal overlord Cigar Face or a new original villain, but it will be opposite the main character being played by Peter Dinklage. The plot synopsis is, at the moment:
A meek towel boy transforms into a powerful superhero after getting dumped into a vat of toxic waste.
Which is pretty much the same as the original 1984 version, but this remake is still in the early stages of production. The original was made with a very small budget of about $500,000 but went on to gain a cult following and had 3 sequels, a TV series, a video game and even a 2008 rock musical.
This remake is being written and directed by Macon Blair, best known for acting under Jeremy Saulnier in movies like Blue Ruin and Green Room. Blair has directed only one movie, I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore.
At the moment the confirmed cast is Dinklage, Bacon, Jacob Tremblay and Taylour Paige. The Toxic Avenger will begin filming in Bulgaria later this month.
The Toxic Avenger has no release date at the moment.
