It was sad news when we heard that Kelly Preston passed away in July 2020, losing a two-year battle against breast cancer. The last movie she is credited with is due out soon, called Off The Rails. Here is the trailer:
It is a shame it starts off with the funeral of a friend, but the movie was originally shot a couple of years ago, when Preston knew she had cancer but was still battling and carrying on working.
Off The Rails is directed by Jules Williamson and written by Jordan Waller. Alongside Preston is Jenny Seagrove, Judi Dench, Franco Nero, Ben Miller, Sally Phillips, and Elizabeth Dormer-Phillips. The blurb:
Now in their 50’s, four friends recreate an inter-rail journey across Europe, but this time 18-year-old Maddie is taking her mother’s place, fulfilling her dying wish. With lost passports, train strikes and romantic entanglements thrown in their way, they must put old feuds aside to complete the journey within five days and remind themselves that they are still at their peak.
Preston spoke about working with Judi Dench on Instagram:
“Dream come true today shooting with Dame Judi Dench in London for @offtherailsfilms #judidench’ in a pair of April 2019 posts that featured shots of herself and her colleagues on the film, including Sally Phillips, Jenny Seagrove and Peter Bowles, among others.”
Her husband, John Travolta, announced her passing away in July 2020 :
“It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer.
She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many, Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered, I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal.”
Off The Rails will remain Preston’s final credit and it looks like she had a lot of fun making it. The movie is due out on 23rd July in the UK, with global release dates to follow.
