Amazon Prime has released an official trailer for an energetic action-comedy called Jolt, the latest starring Kate Beckinsale.

Jolt

Jolt is apparently a bit of a twist on Crank, with Beckinsale in the lead role as a bouncer named Lindy.

Lindy has a slightly murderous anger-management problem that she controls with the help of an electrode-lined vest she uses to shock herself back to normalcy whenever she gets homicidal.

After the first guy she’s ever fallen for is murdered, she goes on a revenge-fueled rampage to find the killer while the cops pursue her as their suspect.

Here’s the trailer:

Amazon’s official synopsis reads:

“Lindy is a beautiful, sardonically funny woman with a painful secret: Due to a lifelong, rare neurological disorder, she experiences sporadic rage-filled, murderous impulses that can only be stopped when she shocks herself with a special electrode device. Unable to find love and connection in a world that fears her bizarre condition, she finally trusts a man long enough to fall in love, only to find him murdered the next day. Heartbroken and enraged, she embarks on a revenge-filled mission to find his killer, while also being pursued by the police as the crime’s prime suspect.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Beckinsale talked about playing the violent character:

“Lindy is a very flawed character, but also you root for her because there is a wish-fulfilment side to the fact that she’s got no inhibitions about her anger,”

“There’s a small scene where some guy is like, ‘Cheer up, love,’ and she just pushes his face into a wall. We’ve all had that urge! Lindy’s just a great character. I love the mix of comedy and action and female rage. It seemed very timely.”

In addition to Beckinsale, Jolt stars Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Bobby Cannavale, Laverne Cox, Jai Courtney, Lili Rich, and David Bradley. It was written by Scott Wascha and directed by Tanya Wexler.

Jolt premieres on Amazon Prime on July 23rd.
