Whenever there is news of a much loved original cast returning for a later franchise feature, there is one thing fans fear – the cameo! A lazy attempt by a studio hack to garner favor with some awkwardly inserted nostalgia, thinking this then gives them a pass to crap all over a popular movie series. Ghostbusters 2016, we are looking at you.
So when we heard that original Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum were returning to face off against the dinosaurs in Jurassic World: Dominion we feared the worst. Maybe the best we could hope for was a short cameo as per Ian Malcolm’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom role or Ellie Satler in Jurassic Park III. Or some ham-fisted attempt to pass the baton and kill them off like Star Wars.
Not so, according to Sam Neill. He spoke to Yahoo Movies and he says they are present throughout and integral:
“We’re all the way through the film, Jeff, and me, and Laura … probably won’t be running quite as fast as I was 27 years ago.”
Movie production in the UK is starting up again as COVID appears to recede after a three month lockdown and cast and crew are already either in the UK or in quarantine ready to arrive. Neill himself will be there:
“…about ten days… we’re all going to be living in the same joint for three or four months, so that’s going to be fun. And everybody loves Chris and Bryce as well, so I think we’ll be a very happy bunch.”
Jake Johnson, Omar Sy Daniella Pineda and Justice Smith are also returning and the movie is targetting a June 11th 2021.
