White Man To Replace Natives
Disney Parks has announced that they are going to overhaul their Jungle Cruise ride because of its “negative depictions” of cultures.
The news comes after it was announced that they intend to overhaul Splash Mountain because of its connections to the controversial 1946 movie Song Of The South. The Jungle Cruise is one of Disneyland’s oldest rides and was personally overseen by Walt Disney.
These proposed new changes will replace the depictions of indigenous people in the ride which according to Disney aims –
“to reflect and value the diversity of the world around us.”
Imagineers will reimagine part of the story to focus on that of a skipper’s Jungle Cruise boat trip gone wrong with boat wreckage and featuring the first animatronic skipper inside the attraction.
Disney officials say that their –
“Imagineers are constantly looking for opportunities to enhance experiences,”
“When it comes to updating classic attractions, they employ a very careful and thoughtful approach. In this particular case, Imagineers created a storyline that builds upon what people love the most while addressing negative depictions simultaneously.”
There are plenty of people who believe that Disney Parks are doing the wrong thing by going in and rewriting the story and its history, there’s nothing wrong with the rides, they were simply made during a different time.
No timeframe has been given as to when Disney will be done revamping the ride at the California and Florida parks.
