Pollono writes and directs the film, making his feature directorial debut, and co-stars in it alongside Jon Bernthal, Shea Whigham, Jordana Spiro, Ciara Bravo and Spencer House.
Small Engine Repair centers on former high school buddies Frank, Swaino and Packie – now past their prime – meet off-hours one night in Frank’s out-of-the-way repair shop under cloudy circumstances that only Frank seems to know.
The arrival of Chad, a plugged-in, preppy college jock, ignites a long-simmering resentment.

Vertical’s synopsis reads:
“Frank (John Pollono), Swaino (Jon Bernthal) and Packie (Shea Whigham) are lifelong friends who share a love of the Red Sox, rowdy bars and Frank’s teenaged daughter Crystal (Ciara Bravo). But when Frank invites his pals over to a whiskey-fueled evening and asks them to do a favor on behalf of the brash young woman they all adore, events soon spin wildly out of control. Based on Pollono’s award-winning play, Small Engine Repair is a pitch-black comedic drama with a wicked twist and a powerful exploration of brotherhood.”
Small Engine Repair is produced by Rick Rosenthal, Peter Abrams, Bernthal, and Noah Rothman.
The film was supposed to premiere at the 2020 SXSW Film Festival last year but it got cancelled and now it is slated for a September 10th release.
