Three New Projects Announced
According to THR, J.J. Abrams has his first three shows lined up for the upcoming streaming service HBO Max after signing his deal with WarnerMedia last year.
All three projects will be executive produced by Abrams and his wife and Bad Robot partner Katie McGrath and Warner Bros. TV Group.
The series is described to be exploring “the untold, terrifying stories” of The Overlook Hotel from Stephen King’s The Shining, featuring “iconic characters from the horror-thriller.”
Abrams will produce Overlook alongside Ben Stephenson and Rachel Rusch Rich. The show will also follow last year’s Mike Flanagan-directed sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep.
Justice League Dark
The third will be a major series based on DC characters in the Justice League Dark Universe, details to be revealed soon.
Justice League Dark debuted in DC Comics in 2011 and features a team consisting of magic-based characters such as Zatanna, Deadman, Swamp Thing and John Constantine.
Set in the 1970s Southwest, Duster follows the life of a gutsy getaway driver for a growing crime syndicate goes from awful to wildly, stupidly, dangerously awful.
Morgan is currently a writer on The Walking Dead. Previously, she was a co-executive producer and writer of AMC’s Into The Badlands.
HBO Max’s Chief Content Officer Kevin Reilly in a statement called this an –
“amazing start to our association”
With Abrams’ company Bad Robot, expressing excitement over –
“Warner Bros. letting them loose on iconic IP from Stephen King.”
HBO Max is slated to launch in May costing $15 a month.
