This is an odd bit of news, Jesse Eisenberg has been cast in a new movie called Manodrome, that’s not the odd bit, but the casting itself.

Not that much is known about the movie at the moment, but is the plot is :

The thriller tells the story of Ralphie (Eisenberg), an Uber driver and aspiring bodybuilder who is inducted into a masculinity cult and loses his grip on reality when his repressed desires are awakened.

It sounds a little like Videodrome, where James Woods is trying to find the source of a video production and ends up blurring the lines of reality and fantasy.

Manodrome will star Eisenberg, Adrien Brody and Riley Keough. It’s being written and directed by South African John Trengrove, with his first English speaking movie.

I like Eisenberg, but as a body builder?

Hmmm. Eisenberg has a had a great career, from The Social Network to Zombieland to Now You See Me to Batman Vs Superman. He has been stated that he actively seeks out ‘nasty’ characters, he has said :

“When I started doing movies, I kept getting sweet, virginal characters. And I didn’t want to do that anymore, so I started only taking parts that were confident, nasty people.”

He also confessed he’s never seen some major movies on the big screen :

“I’ve never seen a superhero movie or a James Bond movie or a ‘Star Trek‘ or ‘Star Wars‘ movie. My parents would play me Frederick Wiseman sociology documentaries instead.”

I’d take a sociology documentary over The Rise of Skywalker any day!

There is no release date for the Manodrone yet.
