Whenever Hugh Jackman is working, he is asked about one thing these days. His return as Wolverine for Deadpool 3. He was out doing press for Florian Zeller’s The Son when the subject came up again.

Jackman has talked about how he immediately got a sense of a 48 Hrs style partnership between Wolverine and Deadpool from the moment he watched the first movie. It was not something he thought about again, especially after Logan in 2017 which saw him have finality in the role.

With the movie locked to shoot next year for a 2024 bow, he now has a clearer view of how the pairing will work on the screen and Jackman tells Empire the relationship is simply hate/hate:

“How do I categorize it? Ten being really close, zero being the reality, we’re zero, we’re opposites, hate each other. I’m just talking from my perspective, [Logan’s] frustrated by him, wants to be a million miles away from him or wants to punch him in the head. Unfortunately, he can’t be a million miles away from him in this movie, so I’m probably going to punch him in the head a lot.”

So not a buddy cop dynamic like he envisioned then?

“No, it’s just in the banter relationship, just that sorta opposites; he’s the vinegar to [my oil]. He’s the fast-talking, quick-worded loudmouth, and my character just wants to punch him in the head. To just shut him up.”

When asked why he took the role, he replied that taking Ryan Reynolds out every day was all the incentive he needed. Deadpool 3 lands November 8th 2024.
