Following in the footsteps of Jack Ryan, now Jack Reacher is confirmed to be getting the serial treatment. Amazon Studios have obviously liked what they have seen since the pilot order a few months ago. They have officially handed out a straight to series order.
It will join The Lord Of The Rings among their high profile new offerings.
This, of course, officially spells the end of the Tom Cruise movie series also based on the books.
Lee Child’s character will be brought to the small screen by Nick Santora (Scorpion, Prison Break) who will serve as showrunner. The first season will apparently be a faithful adaption of the first novel – The Killing Floor.
The books have sold more than 100 million copies to date and follow a military veteran and former Military Police top investigator who now lives a roaming lifestyle with no ties.
As he travels around he frequently finds himself helping others, sometimes as a freelance investigator, sometimes as a trouble shooter, other times as a one-man A-Team helping communities under siege from criminals.
One controversy of the movies was the casting of Cruise, who is known for his diminutive height. In the books the character of Reacher is around 6 feet 4 inches and described as being:
”…blonde and built like a tank…”
Santora will executive produce the series alongside author Lee Child, Don Granger, Scott Sullivan, movie director Christopher McQuarrie, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Marcy Ross. Amazon Studios will work with Skydance Television and Paramount Television to bring this to life.
