With fans of comic book movies waiting with bated breath to see what James Gunn and Peter Safran have planned out for the DCU, they are seeking hints in everything. A great source of speculation is James Gunn’s highly active Twitter feed.

The latest tweet to cause rampant speculation about the future of the DCU featured Gunn sharing his morning view:

The thing that has got DC fans all excited is his choice of comic book. Is he trying to tell us something as he writes his Young Superman movie? The comic he was reading was an award-winning Superman comic that is somewhat legendary among fans – All-Star Superman.

The DC Comics All-Star lines were planned to let storytellers lay out stories free from the canon and the continuity, with the aim of telling large scale stories. All-Star Superman had 12 issues and ran for nearly three years, from 2005 to 2008.

In All-Star Superman, an adult and established Superman rescues Dr. Leo Quintum and his P.R.O.J.E.C.T. team from an exploration mission to the Sun that has been remotely sabotaged by Lex Luthor.

Luthor crafted his plot hoping to overwhelm Superman’s cells with lethal solar radiation levels. It didn’t work and renders Superman even more powerful and able to project his bioelectric aura.

Quintum determines that Superman’s new power source is killing him, and Superman has only one year to live. Luthor is arrested after a Clark Kent article in the Daily Planet exposes all his crimes. Superman keeps his impending death secret and continues fighting for truth and justice even though his death is drawing near.

Before he dies, he must complete the Twelve Labors of Superman to ensure the future survival of both humans and Kryptonians as his last will and testament.

Well, it’s no Condiment King.

Does this mean Gunn is using All-Star Superman for his DCU and Superman inspiration? Or are fans just seeking something, anything, in the absence of real news?
