If you liked The Grey, The Edge, or The Shallows then August 19, 2022 could be a date for your diary as another human vs. nature movie will be released. Idris Elba will tackle a blood-thirsty lion on the big screen in Beast from Universal.

In Beast, Elba will play Dr. Nate Samuels, a widowed husband, and father. Samuels returns to South Africa, where he first met his wife, on a long-planned trip with their daughters to a game reserve.

A journey of healing becomes a fight for survival when a lion, a survivor of vicious poachers who now sees all humans as the enemy, begins stalking them. The massive rogue lion is intent on defending its territory and proving that the savannah has one king, and no place for man.

The movie is being directed by Baltasar Kormákur, who has some familiarity with man vs. nature stories having made Everest starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, and Elizabeth Debicki. He also made Adrift with Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin.

The script was written by Rampage and Non-Stop scribe Ryan Engle. Beast will be produced by Will Packer and James Lopez. Jaime Primak Sullivan and Bernard Bellew will be serving as executive producers.

Elba also has a Luther movie in the works.
