The Stanford Prison Experiment and C.O.G. Director Kyle Patrick Alvarez is set to direct and executive produce the second season of Amazon’s psychological thriller drama series Homecoming.  He will take over from Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail.

Stephan James and Hong Chau will return to their roles of Walter Cruz and Audrey Temple from the last season.  One key cast member is not returning.   Janelle Monae is succeeding Julia Roberts as the leading star of the new season which will involve a new story.

In the first season, Julia Roberts played Heidi Bergman.  She was a caseworker at Homecoming, a facility that helps soldiers transition back to civilian life.

She leaves Homecoming to start a new life living with her mother and working as a small-town waitress. Years later, the Department of Defense questions why she left.

Created by Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg, the series is co-produced by Amazon Studios and UCP and is executive produced by the creators along with Alvarez, Julia Roberts, Sam Esmail, Chad Hamilton, Chris Giliberti, Alex Blumberg and Matt Lieber.
Alvarez’s work in television has included Starz’s Counterpart and Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why.
