There can be only one, and it seems that one is Henry Cavill. The Man of Steel actor is in talks with Lionsgate to be in a reboot of Highlander. There is no news on whether he will be taking on the role of Conner McCloud or a brand new character following the same story.
The original 1986 movie starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown. Highlander was directed by Russell Mulcahy. The original movie had a soundtrack by Queen and followed an immortal Scottish swordsman who had to confront other immortals as they battled each other for the fabled Prize. It spawned four sequels and three TV series.
This new version is being directed by John Wick helmer, Chad Stahelski, and being written by Ryan Condal and Kerry Williamson. This reboot has been in the works for an awfully long time now with names like Ryan Reynolds and Justin Lin attached over time. The original movie producer, Peter Davis, was on board to produce before he passed away in February.
Does this casting confirm that Cavill really is out for good as Superman? He’s pretty busy with The Witcher, a passion project for him as a gaming nerd who famously missed the phone call from Zack Snyder about being the new Superman because he was playing World of Warcraft.
He is working on the next series of The Witcher, as well as a sequel to Enola Homles for Netflix. There is no release date or production schedule for Highlander publicised yet.
