A busy time in the world of Stephen King adaptations. A Firestarter reboot with Zac Efron and Christine from Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller are all in the pipe. Getting ever closer is New Line Cinema’s version of Salem’s Lot. This has been building its cast lately with Alfre Woodard joining Lewis Pullman (Bad Times at the El Royale and son of Bill Pullman) in key roles. Now, has Salem’s Lot cast its Barlow? Or is it another key role?

William Sadler (The Shawshank Redemption, Die Hard 2) has been sneakily cast, seemingly without fanfare and unlike the rest of the cast without a character listing.

Warner Bros. has handed the movie a release date of September 9th, 2022, meaning that it will be in cinemas in time for Halloween next year. Many dads dressed as Barlow perhaps this year?

The King classic tells the story of Ben Mears, an author who returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book… only to discover that the town is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire.

Sadler has form for playing one bald-headed creature of darkness.

Or could he be playing another, as yet uncast, major role? That of Father Callahan, the town’s Catholic priest who has a crisis of faith, leaving him no match for the newly arrived monster.

Another major role yet to be cast is Straker, the main vampire’s familiar. This role was memorably played by James Mason in the well-regarded 1979 TV mini-series. In that adaption, the character of Straker got a lot of key lines. He needed to, as the decision was made to deviate significantly from the book in making Barlow a non-speaking, snarling, animalistic vampire, like Max Schrek’s Nosferatu. This meant the evil exposition had to be delivered by another.

Sadler is already on the Salem’s Lot set and shooting.
