Paramount+ is quietly building itself something of a reputation. While the flashier rivals such as Disney+ and Amazon bathe themselves in Star Wars, Marvel, huge movies, and mega-budget adaptions like Lord Of The Rings, Paramount+ is being talked about among entertainment junkies as the home of some really good content. Now their big bet is nearly here – a TV show based on the smash-hit game series Halo.

Paramount+ has now shared the first official trailer for their live-action Halo show that will land in March on Paramount+. The trailer was revealed at The Game Awards.

Pablo Schrieber stars as Master Chief, a soldier in the 26th-century conflict between humanity and the alien threat known as the Covenant. Jen Taylor, Yerin Ha, Natascha McElhone, Bokeem Woodbine, Shabana Azmi, Bentley Kalu, Natasha Culzac, Kate Kennedy, and Danny Sapani co-star.

The games in the series are critically acclaimed, with the original considered the Xbox’s killer app. This led to the term “Halo killer” being used to describe console games that aspire, or are considered, to be better than Halo. At one stage it felt as if almost every other game was declared a Halo Killer.

By 2015, the games had sold over 65 million copies worldwide, with the games alone grossing almost $3.4 billion. As of February 2021, that figure has risen to 81 million copies.

Halo has since become one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time. The Halo Universe now spans multiple best-selling novels, graphic novels, comic books, short movies, and animated movies.

Will TV allow the story to breathe and avoid the curse of video game adaptions to live-action?
