We are not 100% sure anyone actually asked for it, but Legendary and Warner Bros. must have the numbers so Godzilla Vs. Kong 2 is a go. Full production has officially started in Queensland, Australia.
Those numbers show that, despite a pandemic and a simultaneous theatrical and HBO Max debut, last year’s Godzilla Vs. Kong took in more than $460 million at the worldwide box office. Not bad. Not bad at all. So despite me not being able to remember a thing about it, plenty of other people watched it.
Adam Wingard is back to direct and this time his leading man from The Guest will join him. Dan Stevens takes the lead. Maybe this will be a precursor to us getting the sequel to that awesomeness that was The Guest?
This follows the Godzilla reboot, Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King Of The Monsters and the first Godzilla Vs. Kong making up the Monsterverse. The mysterious Monarch corporation not seeming any closer to getting a handle on things.
The first Godzilla was promising, but at times frustrating. Kong: Skull Island was a high point due to an excellent cast and a sense of humor. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters managed to waste Charles Dance, which is itself a crime against entertainment.
Godzilla vs. Kong 2 will open on March 15th 2024 against A Quiet Place: Day One.
