Series Premieres Next Month

CBS has released a full trailer for Clarice, the new drama based on FBI agent Clarice Starling, Jodie Foster’s character in The Silence Of The Lambs.

In this iteration, Rebecca Breeds stars as FBI agent Starling, who takes a case in her native West Virginia but still suffers from the memory of her former case involving serial killer Buffalo Bill, whom she caught with the help of serial killer Hannibal Lecter.

Originally lifted from Thomas Harris’ 1988 novel, Starling was played by Foster in the 1991 film of the same name with a performance that one her an Oscar. In the 2001 film adaptation of Harris’ follow-up novel, Hannibal, Starling was portrayed by Julianne Moore.

The official CBS synopsis reads –

“Set in 1993, a year after the events of The Silence Of The Lambs, the series serves as a deep dive into the untold personal story of Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds), as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high-stakes political world of Washington, D.C.”

Due to a legal issue about rights ownership, Clarice has been forced to omit any mention of Hannibal Lecter, as well as any previous plots involving the character. The show’s producer Alex Kurtzman told Entertainment Weekly –

“I’m still trying to understand how the rights are divided,”

“But it’s been quite liberating because we have no interest in writing about Hannibal – not because we didn’t love the films and the show, but because it was done so well by so many people that it didn’t feel fresh for us.”

Starring alongside Breeds is Lucca De Oliveira, Devyn A. Tyler, Kal Penn, Nick Sandow, Michael Cudlitz, and Marnee Carpenter.

Clarice will premiere on CBS on February 11th.
