Everyone knows that this generation of leading men and women have to practically live at the gym, with a personal trainer and a dietician, for months in the lead up to shooting a movie. They get to shred on carb-free diets, dodge gluten like the rest of us dodge wasps and get buff all on the studio’s dime. Even Free Guy has to get buff.
Of course, there is also the suspicion of other types of assistance in their endeavors.
The rest of us? Join a gym, forget to cancel a year later, occasionally remember to go for a run and then swear never to do that again, and now we are old and our knees hurt all the time when it gets cold and we make strange, involuntary noises when we get up off the couch.
Ryan Reynolds picks on this theme for his latest video to promote his upcoming movie Free Guy and the ridiculous lengths some actors have to go to in order to hit the character shape.

Free Guy is an upcoming American science fiction action comedy film directed by Shawn Levy from a screenplay by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn and a story by Lieberman. The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Joe Keery, and Taika Waititi.
In the open-world video game Free City, Guy (Reynolds) is a non-player character (NPC) working as a bank teller. Thanks to a program developed by programmers Millie (Comer) and Keys (Keery) inserted into Free City by the publisher Antoine (Waititi), Guy becomes self-aware of his world being a video game, and takes steps to make himself the hero, creating a race against time to save the game before the developers can shut it down.
Free Guy is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on August 13, 2021 by 20th Century Studios. Its release had been pushed back three times from a July 2020 release date due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
