Denis Villeneuve has confirmed that the nephew of the villainous Baron Harkonen, Feyd-Rautha will appear in the upcoming Dune 2.

Villeneuve spoke about the sequel in a recent interview with Empire. When answering whether Feyd would be included, he said the following:

“Definitely. That’s a choice that I personally brought on. There was enough characters that were introduced in this first part, and it will be more elegant to keep Feyd for Part Two. It will be definitely a very, very important character in the second part.”

The other notable character absent from Dune is Emperor Shaddam IV, who is an instrumental force in the overall story.

The Feyd-Rautha character features prominently in Paul Atreides’s journey, acting much like a competitor for the title of Kwisatz Haderach given the similarities between the two. Sting brought a kind of weird, craziness to his performance as Feyd in David Lynch’s Dune.

Villeneuve has said that the Dune sequel would focus on Zendaya’s Chani, the love interest of Paul and a Fremen native.

The birth of Paul’s sister, Lia Atreides, should also play a major role in the sequel. Lia brings major repercussions in Herbert’s sequel novel, Dune: Messiah, though her birth does bring more development in the original, especially for Paul’s mother, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson).

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two is due to hit theaters on October 20th, 2023.

And if Dune: Part Three pushes through, Villeneuve is likely to adapt every element from the source material that provides a satisfying ending for its main characters.
