John Saxon, an actor who was “that guy” in everything, has passed away from pneumonia at the age of 83. We don’t do a large number of obituaries here at The Last Movie Outpost. This is mainly because you either miss one and upset a lot of people, or we fall into the trap of making them self-absorbed and all about “Me, me, me!” rather than the subject of the tribute.
However we simply could not let Mr Roper from Enter The Dragon and Sador from Battle Beyond The Stars pass without mentioning him.
He appeared in Wes Craven’s 1984 A Nightmare On Elm Street and two of the sequels. He featured in Black Christmas and worked with Roger Corman a number of times.
He won a Golden Globe for his role as a Mexican bandit in The Appaloosa, not being overrun by Marlon Brando.
He has starred alongside a who’s who of Hollywood’s finest including, obviously, Bruce Lee. Sandra Dee in The Reluctant Debutante, Clint Eastwood in Joe Kidd, Robert Redford in The Electric Horseman and Debbie Reynolds in This Happy Feeling. His filmography is diverse as it ranges from Beverly Hills Cop III to Blood Beast From Outer Space.
He also had recurring roles on Dynasty and Falcon Crest. Rest in peace, Mr Roper.
