Justice League, Fantastic Beasts and The Flash star Ezra Miller is going to play a key role in the upcoming mini-series adaption of Stephen King’s epic apocalypse novel The Stand. CBS All Access have released some pictures of the actor in character.

In a cheery tale for our time, a super-flu pandemic will kill 99 percent of the population. The survivors split into two camps and the stage is set for a confrontation between good and evil.

EW are reporting, via the ever reliable Dark Horizons, that Miller will play Trashcan Man. An insane, unpredictable and unstable man with a love of all things fiery, he is drawn to New Vegas and the group led by the dark, malevolent Randall Flagg (Alexander Skaarsgard).

Showrunner Benjamin Cavell spoke about Miller’s desire to play the role:

“He’s a huge fan of the book and had fallen in love with this character and wanted to play it for a long time. On our first call, he described Trash as ‘the embodiment of pyromania.’ The only thing this guy was capable of, and the only area in life he was comfortable, were with the explosives and instruments of fire and destruction.

He wears basically no clothes except for his extensive tactical gear. So he’s just kind of in underwear and combat boots … the character has to be right on the edge of over-the-top. But no matter how strangely he’s behaving there’s always this Ezra Miller soul as a twinkle coming through. I can’t say enough about how brilliant he is in it.”

For months the internet was rife with speculation that Marilyn Manson was going to play the role. Cavell says they did speak to Manson, but not about this role. That was for a role that eventually did not make the adaption.

Whoopi Goldberg, James Marsden, Odessa Young, Jovan Adepo, Amber Heard, Henry Zaga and and Owen Teague star in the mini-series which will premiere on CBS All Access on December 17th.
