Extraction was like a breath of fresh air. In an age when every movie seems to need to strive for hidden depths and messages, then twist themselves in knots trying to be overly clever, it was a straightforward and direct action thriller.

Oh boy, was it better for it! It felt like a great flashback to the unapologetic action movies of the 1980s. Now the guys behind Captain America: Civil War and the last two Avengers movies are working up the sequel.

The first movie followed ex-Austrialian SAS mercenary Tyler Rake (great hero name!) as he battled to run the gauntlet of drug lords and gangsters in Dhakar, Bangladesh to escape with a kidnapped child. It was Netflix’s biggest streamer ever for a long time this year.

Joe and Anthony Russo have confirmed that they are now working on the screenplay:

“Yeah we’re still working on two. We’re in the script phase right now but we’re hoping to shoot that sometime next year. And then you know, say I’m super excited, Hemsworth’s super excited, Netflix is excited so it’s really just a function of getting the script done.”

The sequel is looking to shoot late next year once Hemsworth has cleared Thor: Love And Thunder and Hulk Hogan.

This would seem to clarify the somewhat ambiguous ending to the first movie.
