20th Century Studios has released a new extended clip from Ridley Scott’s upcoming historical action thriller The Last Duel.

The Last Duel

Based on a true story, The Last Duel is a historical drama set against the brutality of 14th century France. about flying accusations and settling matters at the end of a lance and sword.

The film unravels long-held assumptions about France’s last sanctioned duel between Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris, two friends turned bitter rivals.

The official blurb reads:

The Last Duel is a gripping tale of betrayal and vengeance set against the brutality of 14th century France. A cinematic and thought-provoking drama set in the midst of the Hundred Years War, the film explores the ubiquitous power of men, the frailty of justice, and the strength and courage of one woman willing to stand alone in the service of truth.”

 

“In 1386, Marguerite de Carrouges claims she has been raped by her husband’s best friend. Her husband, knight Jean de Carrouges, challenges his friend and squire Jacques Le Gris to trial by combat. It is the last legally sanctioned duel in France’s history.”

The film stars Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer, Ben Affleck, and Harriet Walter alongside Nathaniel Parker, Sam Hazeldine, Michael McElhatton, Alex Lawther, Marton Csokas, Željko Ivanek, Clive Russell, Adam Nagaitis, and Bosco Hogan.

Scott directed the movie from a screenplay written by Nicole Holofcener with Affleck and Damon.

The last time Affleck and Damon worked on a script together was for Good Will Hunting, a movie that won them Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay.

The Last Duel will be released on October 15th.
