Remember the 1996 Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick Eraser? I vaguely recall it, but I couldn’t tell you a thing about it. Didn’t it have some cool guns?

This must be the point of Eraser: Reborn. It is just obscure enough to get away with a reboot. The original movie had Arnie, Vanessa Williams, James Caan, James Coburn, and James Cromwell. What a cast! Yet even looking up the details, I still don’t remember that much about the movie.

According to the blurb, Eraser: Reborn is:

US Marshall Mason Pollard (Sherwood) who specializes in engineering the fake deaths of witnesses that need to leave no trace of their existence.

Arnie’s name in the original movie was John Kruger, so it looks like this is a reboot, rather than a remake or sequel.

The new version will star Dominic Sherwood, best known for Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, and Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. It is being directed by John Pogue, known for Deep Blue Sea 3, and penned by Michael D Weiss, the writer of Hostel Part 3.

Pogue and Weiss have worked together a lot, but mostly on straight-to-DVD sequels. Collectively they are known for things like Quarantine 2: Terminal, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, The Butterfly Effect 2, and The Scorpion King 4: Quest for Power. Hmmm.

Joining Sherwood in the cast are McKinley Belcher III, Jacky Lai, Rizelle Januk, Colin Moss, and a few other people you haven’t heard of.

The entire thing was shot over the summer of 2021 and has just been rated R for ‘violent action throughout and some language’, so there is that.

Would you see it? Are you a fan of the original?
