The Dungeons & Dragons movie is building its cast, and it’s perhaps surprisingly good. Chris Pine is already in as the lead. Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith and Rege-Jean Page have also signed up.

Now comes the news that Sophia Lillis (IT) and Hugh Grant are on board as well.

It has been revealed that Hugh Grant will play the villain of the piece. Grant recently stole the show as another villain, Phoenix Buchanan in Paddington 2. It seems in the second half of his career Grant has left the foppishness of Four Weddings And A Funeral and Notting Hill far behind him and is having tremendous fun as this kind of over the top bad guy.

Spider-Man: Homecoming co-writers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who also wrote comedy Game Night, are both writing and directing this movie for Paramount and eOne. The movie adaption has been mooted as:

“…a subversive approach to the game.”

Will it feature a group being transported to a magical realm via some kind of fairground ride?

If it doesn’t, it bloody well should do!

John Wick creator Derek Kolstad is also writing a TV adaption of the property that is said to be separate from this project. The movie version is expected to land in theaters in 2022.
