When I first heard Emily Watson was joining Dune: The Sisterhood, I thought it was the Harry Potter actress using her grown up name. It turns out that she is actually an Emma and the actress joining Dune: The Sisterhood is actual Emily Watson.
Actual Emily Watson, the proper actress. She began her career on stage and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1992. In 2002, she starred in productions of Twelfth Night and Uncle Vanya at the Donmar Warehouse, and was nominated for the 2003 Olivier Award for Best Actress for the latter. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her debut film role as Bess McNeil in Lars von Trier’s Breaking the Waves (1996) and for her role as Jacqueline du Pré in Hilary and Jackie (1998).
She will be joined buy Shirley Henderson, graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal National Theatre. Trainspotting star and Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter.
So they are putting together a proper cast for this. Dune: The Sisterhood is a prequel series currently in the works at HBO Max and Legendary Television. According to the blurb:
“Dune: The Sisterhood is set 10,000 years prior to the events of Dune. It will follow two Harkonnen Sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.”
Watson will play Valya Harkonnen and Henderson will play Tula Harkonnen. The series is based on the novel by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
Diane Ademu-John is the creator, co-showrunner, and executive producer. Alison Schapker is co-showrunner and another executive producer. Johan Renck will direct the premiere episode and executive produce.
