Soon to be seen on the big screen as Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis in the upcoming biopic, Austin Butler could also be on his way to Arrakis. He is reportedly in negotiations to star in the key role of Feyd-Rautha in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Two for Warner Bros. and Legendary.
After appearing in The Shannara Chronicles he also scored roles in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Dead Don’t Die. This will be a blow to Robert Pattinson who had recently spoken of his admiration for Villeneuve and a desire to play a part in the movie. Many immediately thought of the character of Feyd as a possibility.
The cunning nephew of Baron Harkonnen is the polar opposite to his older brother, “The Beast” Rabban. Feyd is instrumental in the events on Arrakis following the re-arrival of the Harkonnen, and is inextricably linked to Paul Atreides and the Bene Gesserit plot. He is also highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat.
Sting played the role in the 1984 David Lynch movie, sporting a pair of plastic underpants the likes of which we will never see again.
Feyd is one of the three key roles most fans of the book noticed were missing from the adaption of the first half of the novel when it hit screens last year. The two others are Emperor Shaddam IV and his daughter Princess Irulan. Florence Pugh is said to be in talks for Irulan.
Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, and Javier Bardem all return for Dune Part 2, and shooting will start as soon as this summer for an October 2023 release.
