Netflix has a trailer up for a new comedy/drama Don’t Look Up, written and directed by Adam McKay.
It’s got an impressive cast, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryle Streep, Mark Rylance, Ron Pearlman, Tyler Perry, Himesh Patel to name just some of them.
The simple version of the plot is:
Two low-level astronomers must go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet Earth.
Expanding on that, the comet heading to earth will kill everyone, but no one believes it. Knowing what DiCaprio is like with his environmentalism, it looks like a bit of a vanity project. Although it seems a strange story, rather than the issues that are on earth, global warming and the such.
I couldn’t quite get how the movie is supposed to be taken, is it a comedy or is it a drama? It looks like it’s being ironic, but again, it’s not quite sure. McKay is known for The Big Short, which I think this looks similar to. I have seen The Big Short, but I didn’t really get it, maybe because I’m British and it was more about the US economy.
I’m probably not the best person to write this trailer up. What are your thoughts, does Don’t Look Up look interesting to you?
Don’t Look Up will be streaming on Netflix on 24th Dec.
