Doctor Who fans are in for a treat if you live in London, there’s a new interactive experience now open, where you are attacked by Daleks, Cybermen and meet the Time Lords.

Here is the official trailer:

It is described as:

“Doctor Who: Time Fracture, a ground-breaking Immersive Theatrical Adventure, plunges you into the incredible universe of Doctor Who.

1940 – at the height of the Blitz. A weapon of unknown origin destroys a small corner of Mayfair, and simultaneously opens a rift in space and time. For decades, UNIT have fought undetected to protect the people of Earth from the dangers it poses. Weakened and beaten back as the fracture’s multiplied out of control, they’re close to defeat.”

They showed some of it on the BBC Breakfast this morning and, I have to say, it looks pretty fun. I have done one of these, many years ago, based on Aliens and I had a blast.

Doctor Who has, or had, a huge fan base, but that has been slipping since Jodie Whittaker took over as the Time Lord. When she started her run, the average was 8.2 mill viewers, but that went down to 6 million by the end of the first series. Fans complained of being bombarded by preachy, serious messages instead of sci-fi entertainment. One Twitter post read:

“That’s the last episode I’ll be watching. I don’t watch this type of TV show to get subliminal PC lectures, it’s supposed to be entertainment.”

Will this new experience get any of the fans back? Or is it too little too late?

It doesn’t mention John Barrowman, who played Captain Jack Harkness, and if he’ll be doing his ‘interactive experience’, probably not.

The Doctor Who extravaganza has started in London and runs until April 2022. You can find the details at the Official Website.
