All that WandaVision speculation and it turned out almost all of us were dead wrong about most of it.
One thing that was clear, though, was how Wanda Maximoff was being teed up to play a major part in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. Just as Steven Strange will apparently play a major role in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
We are one year away from release but principal photography is nearly complete on the Doctor Strange sequel.
It had been assumed that Wanda will be the main villain for the movie, her powers enhanced and corrupted by the Darkhold she claimed at the end of WandaVision.
According to a leak gathering pace in fandom, this is not so. Chiwetel Ejiofor is known to be returning as Baron Mordo. He will reportedly present himself to Wanda as a friend and ally and this will be where the complications start.
However, the true villain will be revealed as Nightmare.
As Marvel geeks will know, Nightmare was the ruler of the Dream realm and dream Dimension. He sought to conquer the entire multiverse but was constantly held at bay by Doctor Strange as his nemesis. He then served as something of an inspiration for Freddy Krueger 20 years ahead of time. He began trapping any mortal he could find in their dreams in hope of gaining both power and knowledge to beat Strange.
Could it be that Nightmare is controlling Mordo to gain the Darkhold and, with it, the power to destroy Doctor Strange?
This is the role that it had been rumored Keanu Reeves will play. However, Reeves has got straight from Matrix 4 to John Wick 4 so it is difficult to see if he could fit it in. It is also speculated that maybe this is the role long-time Sam Raimi collaborator Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead) will take.
At the moment all of this is still in the “To Be Confirmed” file. Watch this space.
