When you get the man behind The Evil Dead in and set out to make the first horror movie in the MCU, against the backdrop of the safety net, you can expect a quite extreme approach to be taken as you have the luxury of being able to wipe clean whatever carnage you create. According to a report, Doctor Strange 2 will kill many and take full advantage of this.
It is being reported by The Direct that an early screening of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness has happened and it very much follows through on the themes of dark times and incredible challenges for those left in the MCU.
The Marvel timeline is broken and variants, as revealed in Loki, are moving across realities. Kang The Conqueror is set to reappear in Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania in 2023 to start to bring the whole thing to a head.
Scarlet Witch, still wrestling with what she did in WandaVision, and the supervillain Gargantos are also in the movie.
High-security reshoots on a closed set were completed last week and the rumor is that these introduce an impressive array of cameos, plus introductions of new characters to the MCU. There was even a wild rumor that Ben Affleck’s movie version of Daredevil could make a very fleeting appearance in the film, but the actor himself shot that down.
The early screening may have been too early to include any of these reshoots, possibly part of Marvel’s spoiler strategy, however the spy report does confirm “an impressive bodycount” and that the freedom provided by the multiverse and variants is used “to great effect.”
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives on May 6th so final post-production is proceeding at pace. Beleive it or not, once Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness and Thor: Love And Thunder are done, we will already be half-way through Phase 4.
