According to a report in The NME, Eddie Izzard has been cast in new version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous 1886 novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.
Eddie will play the role of Dr. Nina Jekyll in this modern interpretation. Nina Jekyll finds friendship with her newly hired help, Rob (to be played by Scott Chambers) but the two of them must work together to stop a resurgent Hyde from destroying her life, and much more.
Stand-up comedian, actor, and political activist Izzard was openly transvestite for many years with it forming a central part of the comedy persona in stage shows. Izzard has confirmed as genderfluid and in 2020 requested she/her pronouns for an appearance on the TV show Portrait Artist of the Year.
Speaking about cross-dressing and gender fluidity in the past, Izzard was very open saying “somewhat boy-ish and somewhat girl-ish” and talking about “Boy mode” and “Girl mode”. In 2020 Eddie declared a wish:
“…to be based in girl mode from now on.”
Doctor Jekyll will be made by the B Good Picture Company. Joe Stephenson (Chicken) directs a script by first-time writer Dan Kelly-Mulhern. Stephenson and Guy de Beaujeu will produce with filming to begin this week in the UK.
