Lucasfilm keep churning those directors! This time, though, it’s due to circumstances beyond their control rather than an actual Star Wars fan and competent filmmaker standing up to their idiocy.
Toby Haynes is having to take over from Rogue One emergency co-director Tony Gilroy for the first three episodes of the spin-off show Cassion Andor. Gilroy is based in New York and the show will film in the UK. Due to COVID19 potential travel restrictions the UK based Haynes will take over.
Haynes was already in the frame to direct some later episodes so the it’s primarily a schedule switch to avoid COVID complications. Haynes is a stalwart of British TV directing with episodes of Doctor Who, Black Mirror, The Musketeers and Wallander in his resume. He is also behind the upcoming US remake of Utopia.
Diego Luna will reprise his role as the title character. Alan Tudyk, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller co-star. It is said the series will be a spy thriller set in the Star Wars universe.
Gilroy will remain showrunner and Executive Producer. The show will screen on Disney+ next year.
