The clearing of decks continues with legacy DC being swept away to make ready for the new DCU. This house cleaning also extends to HBO Max. The fourth seasons of both Titans and Doom Patrol will be the final runs of the DC serials. Eradication is total. A spokesman for the streamer gave a statement to The Hollywood Reporter:
“While these will be the final seasons of Titans and Doom Patrol, we are very proud of these series and excited for fans to see their climactic endings. We are grateful to Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television for making such thrilling, action-packed, heartfelt series.”
The trade press have commented that the creative teams expected this, given the DC Studios new leadership, and are ready to end their shows with proper a proper finale.
Swamp Thing, Stargirl, Young Justice and Harley Quinn are all dead too. The new DCU will include an integrated TV element which leaves no room for these shows.
The Flash TV show is finishing up, Superman & Lois begins season 3 shortly and Gotham Knights is due to premiere soon. If I was the cast and crew of those shows I wouldn’t be making anty long term financial plans right now. Gotham Knights is set in a world post-Batman, and Superman is the #1 priority for the new DCU. It is hard to see how these shows survive alongside any new plans.
Gunn’s own Peacemaker must be in some kind of holding pattern. Would Gunn risk the accusations of favouritism by preserving his own show while he and Safran cancel all others? Peacemaker was anchored in the DCEU and Snyder-verse following cameos at the end of the last season, which may seal its fate.
Greg Berlanti has apparently been asked to rework his Green Lantern HBO Max project. Speculation is that this will be to fit the new DCU.
