Well, that’s all folks!  After the truly terrible movie adaption flopped it was hoped that Stephen King’s sprawling Dark Tower stories in this universe could find a home on TV, hopefully with a streamer with deep pockets to do them justice.  However what seemed like the perfect home – Amazon Studios – has officially cancelled its planned pilot for a TV series.

The new series was designed to be totally separate from the the 2017 film adaptation starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey.  That flopped with both critics and audiences.

Walking Dead supremo Glen Mazzara was in the hot seat and he is apparently now free to work with production company MRC to try and find another home for the show.  Apparently there were two original scripts competing to form the basis for the pilot.  Amazon chose one.

That version had former British soap opera actor Sam Strike as a young Roland and would show how he got his guns.  It would also cover his first encounter with the man in black, to be played by Jasper Paakkonen.

Michael Rooker, Jerome Flynn and Joana Ribeiro also we’re in the pilot.

Rumours from inside Amazon say they were not happy with the pilot and it did not stack up favourably against their other big budget productions that are currently prepping such as Wheel Of Time and The Lord Of the Rings.
