Bryce Dallas-Howard is going to head up the cast of a TV pilot – Escape To Witch Mountain. This is for the Disney+ service. Escape to Witch Mountain was released in 1975, based on the 1968 book of the same name. Sequels followed in 1978 and 1982, whilst Dwayne Johnson led a 2009 film reboot. The story is based on Alexander H. Key’s 1968 novel of the same name.
The show will be a “modern take” (uh-oh) on the franchise and follow two teens that develop strange abilities and discover their sleepy suburb may not be as idyllic as it seems.
The cast will be rounded out by Levi Miller (A Wrinkle In Time), Isabel Gravitt (The Watcher), Bianca ‘b’ Norwood (WeCrashed), and Jackson Kelly (Straight Man) are also set as series regulars.
Travis Fickett and Terry Matalas have co-written the pilot. They will both executive produce. The roster of people in for points is then made up by Augustine Frizzell, Gary Marsh, John Fox and John Davis. Frizzell will direct the project. ABC Signature will be the production house behind this effort.
The original Escape To Witch Mountain is well-loved. On Rotten Tomatoes the film has an approval rating of 77% based on 22 reviews, with an average grade of 6.1 out of 10. It is available on Disney+ as we speak.
Dallas-Howard will also be flexing her directing muscles again with an episode of The Mandalorian season 3. Her episodes in the first two seasons have been very strong. She also remains attached to direct the Flight of the Navigator reboot, also on Disney+.
