Well, nobody saw this coming! In a totally unexpected announcement TNT and TBS have dropped a bomb. They have begun production on a sequel to the 1985 robot boy adventure D.A.R.Y.L. that did solid business for Paramount back in the day.
But wait, there’s more! It will be on TV. It will be a single camera show. And it will be a comedy. Seriously! Arrested Development and Veep star Tony Hale will play the role.
Hale will feature as an older version of Daryl who was played by Barret Oliver in the original. He was a government-created robot with superhuman reflexes and incredible mental abilities. Remember those times, when technology was going to accomplish wonders? I wanted KITT and Airwolf. Whereas what we actually got was Facebook and Twitter, which are slowly destroying our society like a cancer.
In the new show the 44 year old Daryl will try to fit in and keep up in a world he was never designed for as, according to the tag line:
“The boy everyone wanted … has become the man no one needs … in the TV adaptation nobody asked for.”
Jody Lambert and Matt Oberg are writing for Paramount TV. No air date is currently set.
