Amazon has handed out a straight-to-series order for a remake of David Cronenberg’s 1998 horror movie Dead Ringers. Rachel Weisz will take on the double roles originally played by Jeremy Irons. She will also serve as executive producer after she came up with the idea for a remake, pitched it to Annapurna Television who backed the project and brought Amazon and Morgan Creek on board.

In the original Irons played twin gynecologists. They both begin a relationship with the same woman. In this take she will play the double lead role and the pair will share everything from drugs and lovers to a willingness to push pursue unethical medical practices in order to change medicine and champion women’s healthcare.

Albert Cheng, COO and co-head of television for Amazon Studios says:

“As one of today’s most accomplished and versatile actresses, Rachel Weisz will captivate the Amazon Prime Video global audience with her take on these two ruthless, twisted characters.”

Stacy O’Neil, Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, Ali Krug, James G. Robinson, David Robinson, and Barbara Wall will executive produce alongside Weisz. No air date is set.
