Michael B. Jordan makes his directing debut this spring for the third in the Rocky spin-off series Creed. This time around, Creed III will see Adonis Creed dragged into a fight against a childhood friend who has just been released from prison. Damian Anderson (Jonathan Majors) will test him mentally and emotionally, as well as physically.
Tessa Thompson, Wood Harris, and Felicia Rashad all return to their roles. Intriguingly, Creed II opponent Florian Munteanu returns as Viktor Drago, as does boxer Tony Bellew, reprising his role as “Pretty” Ricky Conlan from the first film.
It is the first film in the Rocky franchise without Sylvester Stallone. It is to be set five years after the events of Creed II. IGN carried an interview with Jordan as part of IGN FanFest preparations. Asked if Creed IV would happen, Jordan replied:
“For sure!”
He then expanded his comments to talk about more beyond the movies. The dreaded spin-offs!
“I just want to expand the Creed-verse within reason, but definitely expect other things around Creed for sure.”
In another interview with Collider he also dropped a hint as to what to expect from the fights in the third instalment. Apparently they have a:
“…huge Japanese anime influence…”
Not even sure what that means, in the context of a boxing movie. We will find out soon enough, as Creed III hits cinemas on March 3rd.
