Daredevil star Charlie Cox will be starring in espionage thriller Treason on Netflix. Like all young, British actors right now he was asked about the vacant James Bond role and had this to say to The NME :

“The honest truth is that I think there are better candidates out there than me. The Bond itch has been scratched a little bit for me with Treason but also, particularly by Daredevil. Playing a superhero is not so different.”

Treason is out on December 26th. His next big project is, of course, his full-time return to the role of Matt Murdock, the blind New York lawyer who becomes the vigilante crime-fighter Daredevil.

Daredevil

The three season Netflix show was a fan-favorite, and now Daredevil is being brought inside the MCU after cameo appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney-at-Law. Daredevil: Born Again will be a mammoth eighteen-episodes long and feature the return of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin.

Obviously, we won’t expect the show to be as violent as the Netflix incarnation, or have Kingpin being quite as chilling and psychopathic, will we?

“This has to be a reincarnation. It has to be different. Otherwise, why are we doing it? My opinion is this character works best when he is geared towards a slightly more mature audience. My instinct is that on Disney+ it will be dark, but it probably won’t be as gory.”

Cox says he was very surprised at the length of the season:

“They said to me, ‘We’re going to be shooting in 2023’. I said, ‘Great, when?’ They said, ‘All 2023’. I start shooting in February and finish in December.

I’m fascinated to discover why they’ve chosen to do 18. I’m imagining there’s going to be an element to it that is like the old-school procedural show. Not necessarily case-of-the-week, but something where we go really deep into Matt Murdock the lawyer and get to see what his life is like.

If that’s done right and he really gets his hands dirty with that world… I think there’s something quite interesting about that, to spend a lot of time in a superhero’s day-to-day life, and you really earn the moments when he suits up.”

Daredevil: Born Again will debut in 2024.
