Even though Coming 2 America has received mixed reviews, it’s apparently done well for Amazon Prime Video. So of course there’s talks of there being another sequel already. However, there’s a catch. Eddie Murphy says the only way he’d make Coming to America 3 is if they wait until he’s 75.

It took around three decades for there to be a sequel to the first Coming to America and being that it’s been a big success, Eddie Murphy says he’d want to apply the same approach to Coming to America 3.

The third movie would begin with Akeem Joffer as an old man, at least older than he is now. Murphy says he wants it to be from actual passing of time.

“There’s an idea for a Coming to America 3 that I have, but it doesn’t happen for 16 years. I have to be 75 to do it, and not make me up like 75 but really be 75.”

Coming 2 America is a sequel 30 years in the making to Coming to America (our retro review), where the then Prince Joffer travels to… well America, in order to find himself a Princess. Now all these years later with Coming 2 America, Joffer is the King, but has all daughters. That’s until he learns he has a illegitimate son back in New York and goes and brings him back to the fictional African nation of Zamunda to make him a Prince.

Coming 2 America reunited Eddie Murphy with Dolemite Is My Name director Craig Brewer, the screenplay was written by Kenya Barris, Barry W. Blaustein, and David Sheffield.

On one hand I don’t see it happening, because when Eddie Murphy says it, he seems like he’s joking. However on the other hand, he made this and Beverly Hills Cop 3 and they both suck. He also wants another Beverly Hills Cop movie, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a Coming to America 3.
